Our Pillars
A Business with a New Purpose: 100% of Our Profits Go to Preserve Our Planet.
Conservation Equity represents a total reimagining of the purpose of capitalism. Although a for-profit corporation, we do not have equity owners, beneficial shareholders or investors who are Limited partners and we thus can reinvest our net profits into mission-driven initiatives aimed at safeguarding biodiversity, conserving natural habitats, and fostering sustainable livelihoods. In contrast to the typical luxury tourism investment model that extracts profits from the community and country, while overstating environmental and community economic contribution. ALL of our net equity returns remain within the country and are reinvested to safeguard both the planet and its people.
A Focus on Critical Eco Systems.
Our investments and projects are meticulously chosen to concentrate on the most vulnerable landscapes within the critical ecosystems portfolio of East Africa. By targeting these crucial areas, we aim to protect and sustain the delicate balance of nature, preserving the region's biodiversity, habitat, forests, and watershed for future generations.
A New Standard for Communities & Tourism.
Conservation Equity's unique business model, which prioritizes maximizing impact over investor returns, allows us to establish a groundbreaking new standard of economic benefit for our community partners. This includes offering the highest ground lease rates in the industry and maintaining elevated standards for employment and salaries. Furthermore, we implement the highest conservation surcharge levies among eco-tourism properties and underwrite our community partners' legal costs associated with land title security. These unprecedented commitments revolutionize the level of community benefit from conservation and sustainable tourism.
A Focus on Community Partnerships.
Thriving and economically resilient communities are the cornerstone of effective conservation efforts. At Conservation Equity, we tailor our projects with a deliberate emphasis on partnering with pastoral community landowners. These communities often lack alternative economic opportunities and are particularly vulnerable to the negative impacts of climate change and drought. By building strong relationships and delivering a level of financial support far above the average commercial tourism developer, we fortify the community's ability to withstand environmental challenges and link positive economic outcomes to wise stewardship of natural resources.
Pioneering a New Global Model.
Conservation Equity's financial structure is an 'open source' model, and while we have initially focused on projects in Kenya, our reengineering of tourism finance offers a showcase of what can and should be replicated in ecosystems globally.
